David Mead

David MeadThe first time David Mead visited Grand Rapids he was on stage at Calvin College cutting a particularly dapper figure with a four piece rock band opening for Liz Phair. His debut RCA record "The Luxury of Time" had not yet released but shortly thereafter made national top "album of the year" lists and was added to the local record shelves of many fans of sophisticated, intelligent songcraft and pure pop music. (He has returned to Grand Rapids on numerous occations brought back by fan demand by WYCE, Schuler Books and Music and One Trick Pony).

David's succeeding discs included the rich, textured arrangements and thoughtful lyrics of "Mine and Yours" (RCA), the more inwardly turned sense of transition sustained on the singer/songwriter-ly "Indiana" (Nettwork America) and most recently "Wherever You Are." "Wherever You Are" features the finest tracks from the more rocking 2002 recording sessions with Stephen Hague (New Order, Blur, Pet Shop Boys) recorded before the Sony/BMG merger put an end to his affiliation with RCA.

David Mead is a consumate pop singer/songwriter who creates well-crafted tunes that tap classic writers -  from George Gershwin and Cole Porter, to Lennon and McCartney and Paul Simon - for inspiration. His songs are rich with timeless, memorable melodies that are fresh and inventive, while still ringing with a certain, inviting familiarity.
